FAQ’s
What do you love most about photographing weddings? I love capturing the emotions of a wedding. The whole day is filled with raw emotions, from laughter to tears to just quiet moments and when I am editing the wedding these images are the ones that bring the whole day back to me.
How long have you been photographing weddings? I started photographing weddings in 2005, but I’ve had my eye behind a camera since I was little when my dad handed me a camera. In 2007 my business went full-time and I love every minute of it.
How many weddings do you photograph a year? I typically photograph between 25 and 30 weddings each year.
What kind of equipment do you use? I’m a Nikon girl at heart and I have a full arsenal of professional grade cameras, lenses and flashes with plenty of back-up equipment.
THE DECISION TO HIRE ME
When do couples book you? I encourage couples to book me (or any vendor) as soon as they have made the decision so another couple doesn’t get your date first. Some couples book my services more than a year from their wedding date.
Will you hold a date? A signed contract and 50% retainer fee are required to reserve your date.
Will you customize a collection? Absolutely! I would be happy to provide a la carte pricing and you can create the collection that fits your needs.
Do you offer collections with less coverage? I offer intimate wedding coverage during the off-season (November – April) and for weekday weddings.
Will you travel for a wedding? Of course! I LOVE to travel! If your wedding is located in any of the New England states all travel fees are included in my collections. If you are planning a wedding beyond the New England area please contact me for an all inclusive, customized collection for your wedding.
Do you have insurance? Yes, I have both equipment and liability insurance.
How do we book your services? Once you have made the decision to hire me I will email you a link where you can choose your collection, sign the contract online and pay your retainer fee. Once I receive the signed contract and retainer fee the date is reserved for your wedding.
What form of payments do you accept? I accept Visa, MasterCard and personal checks. If you choose to pay by credit card you can pay either through my online booking system or by calling me with your credit card information.
What happens if you can’t photograph our wedding? I’ve never missed a wedding and I would only miss a wedding in an extreme emergency, such as a death or hospitalization. If that should happen I have a vast network of professional photographers who help each other in emergency situations.
PRIOR TO YOUR WEDDING DAY
Do you provide input on the time line of our wedding day? I love to help couples plan their time line and make recommendations.
Will you meet with us prior to our wedding? I’d love to meet with you to go over the final plans for your wedding day. Things can get very hectic before your wedding day, so if you don’t have time to meet in person we can also meet via video conferencing through Skype or iChat or by an old fashioned phone call:) I also provide an online wedding planner for you to share your wedding day information to help me plan your wedding day pictures.
When is our final payment due? 2 weeks before your wedding day.
YOUR WEDDING DAY
How would you describe your style? I would describe my style as documentary. I like to stay in the background and capture moments as they happen. I’m extremely unobtrusive and I’ve had couples comment after receiving their pictures that they did not even realize I was there. I also love to have some dedicated time with the bride and groom to capture fun, fashion inspired images.
Do you work from a shot list? I work from a list during the group portraits, but as a documentary photographer working from a shot list during the wedding day forces me to miss moments that you would want captured. If there is something special you want photographed, please let me know and I will do my best to capture it.
Do you work with an assistant? I do not work with an assistant. I like to carry my own equipment and work as unobtrusively as possible.
Do you work with a second photographer? I typically work alone and prefer to work as unobtrusively as possible to capture real moments. There are times however when I recommend having a second photographer and one is available as an add-on to all my collections.
Should we see each other before the ceremony? A “first look” as well as taking all the group pictures before the ceremony is a great way to allow more time to get pictures of the two of you as well as allow you to enjoy the cocktail hour with your guests. By planning the pictures before the ceremony you can allow much more time for pictures instead of the one hour during cocktails. All of my couples that have incorporated a “first look” have never regretted it and have found the day much more relaxed and fun. Couples say it doesn’t take away from that first time seeing each other coming down the aisle, but actually enhances the experience. Seeing each other before the ceremony calmed their nerves and they were able to enjoy the ceremony that much more. Read about a bride’s perspective of The First Look. Of course the final decision of whether you want to see each other before the ceremony is always up to you!
How do you handle the group pictures? Prior to your wedding day, I will email you a list of group pictures of your immediate family and the wedding party for you to review. It takes approximately 30-45 minutes to take the group pictures (depending on how many groups there are) and I like to take the remaining time to get some fun pictures of the two of you. When it’s time to photograph the group pictures I like to work quickly and have everyone’s cooperation so that you have some time to enjoy the cocktail hour. If you choose to do your pictures before hand I like to have approximately 1.5-2 hours depending on how many locations there are for pictures.
AFTER THE WEDDING
Do you blog your weddings? I LOVE to blog my weddings and usually post a sneak peek of images on my blog within 1-2 days after a wedding.
How long does it take for us to receive our pictures? I deliver all wedding pictures within 4 weeks of your wedding day.
How many pictures will we receive? With complete wedding day coverage you will receive anywhere from 500-800 pictures from your wedding day.
Are the pictures we receive edited? Yes, I edit out pictures that are out of focus, people blinking, etc. All pictures are then color and exposure corrected.
Do we receive the high resolution files? All my collections include a DVD of the edited high resolution images with reproduction rights. Jennifer Stone Photography retains the copyright for website and promotional purposes and you receive the right to make prints for your personal use. I highly recommend having your files printed byMPIX, they are a Prosumer lab with excellent quality and customer service.
Do you offer albums? An album is the perfect way to display your images and tell the story of your wedding day.
How does the album design process work? After you receive your wedding pictures I ask you to pick out your favorites. Once you have submitted your favorite images I’ll design your album and provide you with an online proof for you to review. If you have any changes, I’ll make those changes and then send it to the album company to be printed and bound. Once the design is submitted to the album company it takes approximately 6-8 weeks to receive your album. All my clients have loved my simple, classic album designs and typically have only minor changes.
